《Dear Tree,》sprouted out from the cut-up of letters, growing into a visual poem like trees do. The letters come from a conversation between two queer women, Ran and I, Xingyan, across China, the U.S., Peru, and Mexico during the 2020–23 COVID pandemic. This is a precious archive of the beginning of our diasporic life. The soft and fragmented words in the letters drifting through multiple times and spaces—when we felt disillusioned with our lands, lost in our mother tongues, and alienated from our bodies—have cultivated a lush wood.
